Questlove, Jimmy Fallon’s music director for many years, has acended to icon-status due to a long collaborative history with artists like Jay-Z, The Roots, Christian McBride and D’Angelo. The moment Fallon debuted as Johnny Carson’s…er, sorry…Jay Leno’s replacement the world had its new Doc Severinsen.

Personally, my favorite part of Questlove’s Wikipedia page is

“Thompson [Questlove’s birth name is Ahmir Khalib Thompson] and childhood friend, Jay Lonick, were known for improvisational call-and-respond percussion battles with plastic buckets, crates, and shopping carts. This style translated into Thompson’s usual drumset arrangement, with most drums and cymbals positioned at waist level, emulating his original street setups.”

In this awesome Guitar Center commercial you get to see Questlove and his unusual drum set up in an intimate setting. The tagline is so awesome (cue audience: “How awesome is it?”)..it could even make Buddy Rich smile. Enjoy.
